Fire department responds to multiple incidents in city
At 8 a.m. Jan 24 a smoke report on East Third Street found no active fire, odor suspected near exterior. Jan 26 8:55 p.m. a Brockglen home fire alarm was extinguished. later a Carrie Street auto fire was checked and doused. Jan 27 2 p.m. two-car crash on Spencer Highway injured two. Jan 28 10:30 p.m. gas leak on East Shannon. contractor cut two-inch line. fire stood by. Evening included a possible heart attack at San Augustine. patient transported. 5:40 p.m. Durant Street pickup truck fire in mobile home park extinguished. The 24th Amendment noted Jan 23 1964. Five grass fires that week, all quickly contained with no property damage.

Jimmie Ethel Burch 78 of 1106 Bayshore Dr La Porte died Wednesday January 26 1977. She was a member of First Baptist Church and La Forte Rebekah Lodge No 172. Survivors include daughter Mrs Aleece Elliott Houston son Less Tee Burch San Marcus Merley Burcliuf Baytown two sisters one brother eight grandchildren nine great grandchildren. Services were Friday January 28 at Art Simpson Chapel with Rev R A Doitley officiating assisted by John Jones and Dana Boatman. Interment Forest Park Lawndale.
