Referendum on Luella street opening dominates council meeting

The council heard residents oppose and support the plan to open Luella as a through street. Speakers cited safety, lighting, and traffic relief while officials described proposed overpasses and THD background. a formal referendum was urged for December 28.

Bicycle safety rules and penalties for riders

Sgt Perkins outlines bicycle laws requiring two riders only in a designated lane, riding near the right edge, no parcels on handlebars, and a working headlight plus rear red reflector at night. Best Lighted Street Named In Deer Park Contest

Mrs. Artie McFerrin of the Deer Park Jaycee Ettes told The Progress after judging that next year’s Christmas Committee should designate a Best Lighted Street. She also recommended a Most Originality Award and noted some winners may have been disadvantaged by turning lights off before final judging.

Moores Win Second in Deer Park Interior Decorating Contest

Mrs Val Nesser awards Mrs Elsie Moore a plaque for second place in the Deer Park Jaycee Ettes Christmas interior decorating contest. Nes ser served as project chairman and judge. the Moores reside at 618 S Iowa St La Porte and were the only La Porte entry.

Staton Defends Job Pay and City Listening to Luella People

Staton addressed the council saying he asked for the job and does not make excuses. He criticized the $40 a month pay and stated the council listens to residents on Luella. The group noted TOPICS grant deadline and the city option expiring December 30, with a referendum possible by January 28 if approved. The December 28 agenda item was approved unanimously.

Harding junior Bisons fall to Beebe Beavers 75 78

Randy Mulvaney led Harding College junior varsity with 21 points in the 1971 72 opener, hitting ten field goals and a free throw as the Bisons lost to Arkansas State Beebe 78 75 Tuesday night. Mulvaney, a Deer Park standout, was named MVP last year and earned two all tournament selections.
