C of C Seminar On Shoplifting Prevention
The Deer Park Chamber of Commerce held a Shoplifting Prevention Seminar on Monday November 28 with Officer S W Davis of the Deer Park Police Department presenting. Morning and evening sessions drew about 55 attendees from local businesses and a certificate program follows during the week of December 11. San Jac Regents Approve Bids and Unemployment Plan
San Jacinto College board approved nearly $10,000 in central campus equipment bids and chose to pay the state a 1 percent tax on the first $6,000 salary per employee to act as reimbursing agent under a new federal unemployment act effective Jan 4 1978. The board also approved a divers, cleaning and filtration system bid for an underwater welding program, various department equipment bids, upheld in district tuition policy, and authorized a five acre Exxon temporary drill site use near South Campus. Appointments were made for department heads including W C Buchanan acting chairman, Billy Eeds chair/coordinator, and Gwen Tilley chair of General Business.

Santa calls area children for charity effort in Pasadena
Santa will phone area children around Christmas via the Pasadena Area Unit of the American Cancer Society. ACS president Leon Wisocki arranged the calls. Parents can add a child to the list by contributing 2.50 dollars or more, payable to the ACS, with a completed information form.

Gibson Wins Full Band Camp Scholarship At Deer Park
Anthony Gibson, senior drum major at Deer Park High School, earns a full scholarship to the 1978 Tech Band Camp next summer after surviving elimination to claim first chair tuba in the top band among 54 tubas across 12 bands. He is also named administrative assistant, the highest student office.
