Drug Decision Program expands to more schools in county
DPISD to begin using the Drug Decision Program Dex Bark and Sheldon join other districts in implementing DRUG DECISION in the upcoming school year. Funded by The Brown and Cullen Foundations and run by the Harris County Department of Education, the program reports a 13 percent cognitive gain from last year's pre and post tests. Countywide teacher training will be led by Howard Durham of Universal Research Systems, with strong emphasis on parent involvement to boost program success. The Southwestern Watercolor Society announces an open competition Sept 30 to Oct 19, with entries due Sept 14-15 and prizes over 300.

Freshmen Orientation Set At Rice University
About 660 freshmen and 60 transfer students will arrive August 20 for two weeks of orientation at Rice University. They come from 42 states and 24 foreign countries, including 116 valedictorians, 35 salutatorians, and 90 National Merit Scholars. Fall semester totals reach about 3,300 undergraduates and graduates as classes begin August 27. orientation runs August 20 to 24.

Seven Deer Park residents earned SHSU Dean's List honors for the spring 1973 semester, each with a 3.0 or higher GPA on at least 12 hours. Recipients include Brenda J. Boundy 3.5, James O.
