Deer Park Council Overrules Voters On Amendments
A Deer Park City Council vote on Friday April 6 overrides the 63 percent voter result from April 3, deeming Amendment No 5 not adopted. The Deer Park Jaycees had studied the amendments after February 6 ordinance passage and advised separate status of Amendments 4 and 5 due to constitutional prohibition. They visited February 20 urging rewording of Amendment 5 to limit forfeiture of attendance pay, but the council dismissed the plea. A citizen letter argues the council cannot nullify the electorate’s clear wishes and urges accountability.
