Turnout Re-elects Deer Park Mayor and Councilmen
Deer Park voters re-elected Mayor Bill Black and Councilmen James Cook Jim Burke and Bob Linberger in the city’s largest turnout. Black won 1287 votes to Glenn Tolar’s 91, Cook defeated Joan Burke 1181 to 1054, Burke and Linberger ran unopposed. Precinct results show Black carried two of three, while Mrs. Burke carried two for Cook. Incumbents Burke and Linberger posted strong precinct tallies. one write-in vote appeared for Bill Chmylak. New swearing-in preceded council actions including fire department vehicle bid and park fencing contract.

Two Deer Park chemical plants were among five granted extensions to meet federal clean air standards by the Texas Air Control Board on March 27 in Austin. Shell Chemical received until Nov 30, Diamond Shamrock until Dec 31 1976, with other facilities including Dow Chemical Oyster Creek Port Freeport Texaco Jefferson Port Neches and Mobil Beaumont also extended to dates through 1976. The board said extensions are delays not variances and plants may face suits for pollution after May 31.
