Twenty Six Years Ago Barnum's Circus Visit to Decorah

Twenty six years ago last Friday September 15 1890 Decorah hosted Barnums big circus for the last time in a crowd that filled the town. Farmers from thirty miles around camped near the grounds which covered much of the north part of the then First ward. The show drew a vast audience though the county fair was in session and attendance was small at the fair that afternoon. Charley Reynolds served as press agent and the writer recalls meeting him at the RerupLICAN office. The ticket office quoted the house as something over twenty five thousand. The day remained a long remembered memory in Decorah.
