John Lind Addresses Democratic Campaign at Opera House
The Hon. John Lind ex-governor of Minnesota opened the democratic campaign at the opera house last Saturday afternoon. He appeared fatigued from travel, spoke fluently with no clear articulation of main issues, and offered unusual tariff views, saying the tariff was taken out of politics. He contended the Adamson law benefits eight hour workers, though railroad men dispute this, and touched on the Mexican situation and the Lusitania note, offering cautious remarks without decisive action. He denied involvement with the sisal trust beyond noting Norman Lind’s supposed role as an assistant, while noting a Senatorial probe affected sisal prices. He criticized Wilson’s Lusitania handling as passive and questioned the invasion context.
