The pledge, endorsed by state fuel administrator Charles Webster, designates a wood usage target and urges purchasing and storing coal for 1918. The week of March 18 23 is designated cut wood for fuel week to promote signing.
A cable from Edgar G. Sisson of the Committee on Public Information reports the United States Embassy consular and military mission and Red Cross left Petrograd for Vologda by the Moscow railroad on February 27. ICPI will remain in Petrograd to continue educational and informational work. The circulation of the President's January 8 message within their area is nearly complete at over 4,000,000 copies, with extensive distribution in Tiflis Vladivostok Odesia Rostov Omet and Chita and about 1,500,000 newspaper circulations and other printing activity. About 1,300,000 German language copies went to the German army fronts. The message also circulated among German and Austrian prisoners in Russia.
A certified copy of Congress's action submitting the national prohibitory amendment to the states has been received by Governor W. L. Harding. The document bears official seals and signatures of Secretary of State Robert Lansing, his chief clerk, Vice President Thomas Marshall as senate presiding officer, and Champ Clark as speaker of the house.

Governor Harding announces his bid for re election and will seek the Republican nomination at the June 3 primary before the party voters.
Sioux Center Ia February 22 1918 N Balkema senator of Sioux County writes to Republican editors praising L M Enger. He served with Enger in the town legislature calling him honest conscientious and capable. Balkema urges Republican voters in the Fourth District to support Enger for the congressional nomination and wishes him success.
Iowa will card every man to record patriot service and bond purchases as part of the Liberty loan drive. Charles St. McNider, director of sales for the Seventh district, said the card will list name occupation residence nationality and more, plus assess property and financial standing to identify slackers and spur duty in the sale campaign.
Washington March 1 The poultry specialists of the United States Department of Agriculture say appreciation of this fact will add 150000000 eggs to our food supply this year without reducing chicken meat. Investigators note winter egg prices are higher than late spring, causing South farmers to discard egg profits to gain slightly more per hen. They suggest farmers keep laying hens and sell eggs then market birds in late spring to boost supply and profits by about 50 cents per hen.
State agents tracing illegal liquor sales across the country raided trains and found a trunk in Fort Dodge containing four ten gallon cans with rubber and metal tops. The trunk had moved through several states carrying whiskey into dry areas. A young man’s failure to keep promises is noted in the closing line.
