Mrs Sarah Kimball visited Fayette and daughter. Mrs Peter Roney and Mabel went to Sioux Falls. Mrs Bertha Nelson from Grand Forks arrived for a stay with Dr Krome's sister. Mrs Robert Morrison returned from Minnesota. Various locals traveled to Chicago Des Moines Milwaukee and other cities for visits and work.

Decorah Couple United in Marriage at Waverly

Miss Louise Weiland of Decorah and Raymond Kranz were united in marriage last Thursday at Waverly. The groom is a farmer near Algona where he works, and the bride has many local friends sending best wishes. She taught near Algona for the past two years, the acquaintance forming during that period.

Carriage Game Foot Injury At Coon Club Cabin

Ben Marsh slipped from the garage door groove and a sliding door struck his foot causing a very serious bruise. He walked with one shoe discarded and bandages as he recovers from the injury at the coon club cabin last Sunday.

Their Thirtieth Wedding Anniversary Surprise Visit

Robert Bear Heller arrived from Chicago with his parents to surprise grandparents Mr and Mrs Ben Bear on the thirtieth anniversary of their July 15 1884 marriage in New York City. He will stay several days to visit friends.

Broadway trial of calcium chloride road treatment near churches

Property owners on Broadway plan to test calcium chloride as an alternative to road oil on the thoroughfare between the Methodist and First Lutheran churches. Intersections will be treated for a half block on each side as part of the experiment.

Golden Wedding at Evans Farm 50th Anniversary Celebration

A large crowd gathered July 12 at Mr and Mrs Chris Evans home in Glenwood to mark their Golden Wedding and 50th anniversary. Over 350 relatives and friends enjoyed a picnic lunch under the grove before greetings and gifts. The Evans, Norwegian immigrants who settled in Winneeshiek County in the early 1870s, remain healthy and hopeful for many more years together.

Mrs Amundsen Injured After Oak Street Fall

Last Monday morning Mrs. C. E. Amundsen fell down stairs at her Oak Street home, sustaining a bad forehead bruise and back pain. Despite her age the accident is serious but she appears to be recovering satisfactorily.

Milwaukee surveyors plan stockyards expansion in Decorah

Milwaukee railroad surveyors arrived in Decorah Tuesday morning to lay out enlargements at the stockyards. Several new yards will be added, giving much needed room.

Man Rescues Child From Dam Dive Near City

Last Thursday morning H F Thompson heard screams by the dam west of town and saw a boy drown. He stripped to his clothes and jumped in, bringing the child to shore where he revived him. The rescued lad, son of Mrs Holm, had fallen while playing with other children by the water. The writer notes the dam’s danger and urges safer play areas.

Tent Show All Next Week At City Grounds

The J. Doug Morgan Stock company with a band and orchestra will perform all next week at the city hitching ground opening Monday evening in The Builder of Bridges. Decorah hosts a season of tented attractions with this run.

First Society Picnic of the Year Held by Hose Company No 2

Hose Company No 2 hosted the season’s first society picnic last Sunday in the ravine by Henry Haas’s residence. The entire company plus friends enjoyed a pleasant afternoon with a very good turnout.

Lodges to Fit Up Room in New Hospital

Greatnights Lodge A M and the Eastern Star joined forces Monday evening to fund a hospital room. A committee was named to select furnishings and complete the setup.
