At the Western Harness Manufacturers and Dealers association meeting in Kansas City last week speakers argued the horse is returning in popularity while motor cars decline. Frank Jackson of Chicago predicted a bright harness outlook and noted more buggies were produced and sold last year than in fifteen years, with motor car sales dropping.

The Waverly Sugar Factory Is Quitting Beet Sugar

The Waverly Independent reports the local beet sugar plant will shut down due to a tariff that makes beet sugar noncompetitive. President Wilson nominated John Skelton Williams of Virginia as assistant secretary of the treasury for the comptroller of the currency and ex officio member of the Federal Reserve Board. Chief Justice Ladd Takes Seat on State Supreme Bench

Justice Ladd assumed the chief justiceship on the state supreme court succeeding Justice Weaver who held the post last year.
