Future price and prospect for wool
The Iowa Homestead argues for a stronger sheep industry to bolster wool supply and state wealth. It notes slow imports, potential Argentina wool, and a high Red Cross demand, estimating 80 million pounds of wool from 10 million sheep at a dollar per pound, with wool on every farm boosting land value and rural profit.

Record cow test breaks fat marks in Iowa November 1917
During November 1917 five thousand seven hundred sixteen cows across twenty six Iowa associations reported to state agent J C Cort. Forty pounds fat came from 192 cows and sixty pounds from seventeen. The high fat producer was C H Smith of the Tripoli Westgate group with 1147 pounds. A four year old Holstein set the state record. his three year old produced 108.6 pounds and a senior yearling 72.5 pounds. Smith attributes gains to careful feeding and herd management. An Ames conference on December 4-5 drew twenty two testers and a short course runs January 28-February 21 at Ames.
