Rural Credits Law Draws Mixed Reactions From Officials
Commentators note Myron T. Herrick and others discuss the newly passed rural credits bill. The measure would require borrowers to invest 5 percent in stock, pledge collateral twice the loan value, live on and cultivate land, and face restricted dismortgaging for five years. Critics warn the process is tangled with loan committees appraisers and red tape, excluding tenant farmers and offering little local benefit.
