No Fishway At Keokuk Dam Cuts Off Mississippi Fish
Keokuk reports a new power dam along the Mississippi north of the city will leave the river and its tributaries north of Keokuk fishless. The $20 million structure spans the river near the Keokuk bridge, with a 119 spillway system and a railroad on top. Without a fishway, fish migrating between St Paul and New Orleans are pushed over the dam and cannot return, threatening northern river fisheries and angering local anglers.
