The twenty three towns will file first reports for year ending March 31 1914 and state now has 758 incorporated towns and 101 cities totaling 850. cities are those with 2000+ population.
Iowa leads in asphalt paving with a promoting pamphlet from a major asphalt company. It notes 1.65 million square yards paved in 20 municipalities outside Des Moines, plus 1 million yards in the city itself, mainly Trinidad Sheet Asphalt and Bermudes asphaltic concrete. The pamphlet asserts Iowa towns of modest size achieve pavements rivaling New York standards, driven by a belief that “Nothing is too good for us” and that good streets raise property values.
At a Dubuque meeting of the Allison Henderson memorial association participants tentatively favored a rivers park as the memorial. About $10,000 has been raised, with a $30,000 park price tag discussed. Proposals included a monument an improved road and a public building. An additional $20,000 was expected to be raised by the city council park board and subscriptions.
Governor Clarke and a committee of city delegates left for San Francisco to choose a site for the Iowa building at the Panama Pacific International Exposition.
