A garbled local item list reports January court terms for Tewin and Hoskina, a fatal shooting at Colberville, and several January meetings in Springfield and Apriogfeld. It notes the Tus row Electric Street Railway beginning operation, a Champaign wedding on Christmas, and various shop advertisements and notices across Te Illinois region.
The circuit court last week ruled on motions to quash the indictments against Captain C F Enery. One count was sustained while another was overrated. The text asserts no crime by Mr Enery and claims prosecutions are aimed at pressuring him for money owed to New York parties. The report alleges motive and questions the cases’ value.
The will of the late George B Hardy of Bine Mound was admitted to probate. Executor Joseph K Hardy receives £19,100 in assets with sureties Oliver Hardy and Elias Wey Gandt. Mrs Mery H Dresback, 72, wife of J J Dresback, died yesterday at 1 30 p m at the family residence in Whitmore township. She leaves a husband and two children. Funeral is set for Wednesday with the body to be removed from the house at 10 o clock a m to Cumberland Presbyterian church in Argents for services. Burial will be in the Cumberland Presbyterian church burying ground one mile northeast of Argenta.
Daly remains hospitalized with injuries from a Christmas Eve assault. Daly’s attacker Beckler is jailed in the county facility awaiting trial. An officer asked for immediate trial but Beckler said he would remain in jail until Daly’s condition improves. No further arrests reported.
A missing pair of bay mares owned by Attorney John A. Brown were traced after a wide hunt across Lafayette and surrounding townships. The horses were spotted in Wash Smith pasture near Urbana where they had been moved after being originally reported stolen. Brown had offered a reward, and the mares showed signs of travel on pavements. The recovery ends a costly search and disruption to Brown’s farm operations.
J J Finn master to chancery presided as two foreclosures were sold Saturday afternoon at the courthouse. Fronting 400 feet on West Packard Street at Pine, the first tract brought 2000 dollars to I R Mills. The second lot on North Street sold for 2400.25 dollars to A J Bromer. In a separate notice, William Gonzales died December 26 at his daughter's home on West Macon Street, aged 62. The body was sent to Jacksonville for interment.
A Decatur desk brief reports F W Haines of the Grand Operascone receiving a Spokane telegram about his brother C B Haines a postal clerk possibly dead from a fall or attack. The note mentions a railway forger James L Bailey captured, and CW Chambers sought by authorities, with various small local notices about weddings and auctions interspersed amid the crime items.
Obituary notes the death of Mrs. Sarah Jane Woolman Haworth at 351 West William Street after a long illness. Born January 19, 1812 in Clinton County Ohio, she lived in Mechanicburg, Deosur, and Decatur with husband Mahlon Haworth. A 50-year Methodist member and devoted wife and mother, she was 80 years old. Two young men, William Rawley and George Curta, face abduction charges in Chicago. other death notices follow with several local passings and inquests.
Grace H Stafford of this city and Obsrlee A Houghton of Chicago were married today at 10 am at the bride’s parents home on South Water Street. Rev T W Pinkerton officiated with no attendants. The couple left for Chicago at 11:25 am amid well wishes and gifts from relatives.
