The State Fair will open in Ottawa on September 19. The Review office is busy with work. Notable items include Amos Conklin building a two story residence on Eldorado street and discussions of local shortages and runaway incidents. The column lists various readers’ notes, editorial asides, and local business chatter about papers, banking, religion, and municipal projects.
Diex Ronenta, famed for mighty moves, is at work in Lovington. Dopson and Minutxy advertise a large inv mience stock for sale at their auction store. Court House Block hosts Manoa News praising Ravinw as best for legal publications. Also notes new offices and sales, temperance event at Opera House, and local court actions involving driving offenses and animal cruelty.
City officials including Mayor Merriweather and Aldermen convened for a May meeting. Minutes from April sessions were approved. Petitions covered sidewalk and street work, water mains, and alley openings. Reports on water works, finances, and police trials were received. An ordinance adopting article IX of chapter 24 for city incorporation was passed unanimously.
Members of Boody Grange No. 1124 adopt resolutions to plant one hundred kernels of corn this season with the crop to belong to the Grange and disposed at a December festival. Premiums are set for largest yields, with payments from State and local grants, plus extra offers from R. H. Hill and F. H. Counsas. Also notes seed sales and a real estate listing near Decatur.
Tax payers of Macon County and state of Illinois are told an act of the 2nd General Assembly allows complete refund of state tax paid for 1873. Park, Treasurer, states refunds apply to portions paid for protection of taxpayers and counties. taxpayers must bring costs for tax of 1873.
