Area Airport Needs To Be Discussed

A Texas Airport System Plan regional planning meeting will be held at 10 am Friday October 7 in the Community Room of Eastland National Bank. Airport development needs for Comanche Eastland and Stephens Counties will be discussed by the Texas Aeronautics Commission with local officials and citizens invited to attend.

Peanut yields fall due to dry weather in area

Gayle Wilkerson reports poor peanut harvests from dry summer weather. Farmers face Segregation 3 peanut issues and a Thursday meeting will explain options. Next week National 4-H Week highlights De Leon's strong 4-H community and student project interest. Tickets for the Howard Payne Southwest Texas game are sold at the school office for Saturday night.

Bearcats Schedule Two Games This Week

The B Team and Freshmen Bearcats will face Hamilton's B team at 6 30 p m Thursday at Bearcat Field. A second game sees the 7th graders at Stephenville at 6 30 p m. The Bearcat varsity has an open date this week.

Friona Sixth Grader Wins Football Contest

Charlie Morgan a Friona sixth grader won the weekly Football Contest with one miss earning a $5 prize from the Free Press and local merchants. Mae Morgan his grandmother placed second missing two games and hitting the 22 point tie breaker to win $3. L. E. Singleton Jr took third with $2. Several entrants missed two games and many failed to predict the Gorman Ranger tie, with De Leon Cisco Merkel Eastland and Menard San Saba also commonly missed.

Cisco Team Stuns Bearcats 22-0 at Home

Cisco Lobo dominate at home Friday night defeating the visiting Bearcats by 22 points. After a scoreless first quarter Cisco scored twice in the final period including a 73-yard run and a 62-yard pass, plus a late safety sealing the win. Bearcats were led by Sig Wolfe with 100 rushing yards. Randall Sanders connected on several completions. The Bearcats hit the road next week for district play against the Dublin Lions.

Howard Payne Southwest Texas football game tickets free

School superintendent James Perkins announces 600 free tickets for the Howard Payne University at Southwest Texas game. Tickets are available at the De Leon School office for students and community members, sponsored by Howard Payne University School of Education with Brown County Education Night. The game kicks off Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Cen-Tex Stadium in Brownwood.

The 1978 De Leonian staff met on Thursday September 22 to plan the yearbook. Steve Box and Norma Davis were named co editors with Robin Hood chosen as assistant editor.

Bob Abels Wins Fifty Mile Cross Country Race

Bob Abels owner of Bob's Auto and Cycle Repair on Highway 6 east won first place in a fifty mile cross country motorcycle race at Midado Raceway eight miles north of Stephenville. He races a 360 cc Husqvarna called Husky built in Sweden and plans to race again on October 23.
