Girls who received their junior degrees of achievement at the F H A meeting Monday night September 26 at the high school auditorium were La Vera Braswell Carol Dickey Kay Campbell Peggy Grisham Beverly Ham Linda Hodges Patsy Husley and Nelda Irby Also receiving the chapter degree of achievement were Martha Lou Huddleston and Audean Whitehurst.

Miss Reta Richmon of De Leon will compete in the state finals of the 4-H Dress Revue at the 1955 State Fair of Texas. More than 170 counties held preliminaries with about 74 girls participating. Judges will assess grooming poise costume accuracy and overall 4-H achievement. The top winner earns an expense paid trip to Chicago for the National 4-H Club Congress.
A Vernon firm won the low bid of $556 065.19 for a U S Highway 67 377 project in Comanche County. The work covers grading structures base and surfacing to the Erath County line and should take 280 working days under district engineer Robert J Milligan in Brownwood. Contract awaits Bureau of Public Roads concurrence with P R Huntington the resident engineer overseeing construction.
The Breth County Singing Convention invites all to a program at the Court House in Stephenville on Sunday October 2 at 2 p m. The event promises community singing led by local participants and organized by Breth County family groups.
Favorable conditions for deer herds in Texas high country spark plans for a substantial fall harvest on Kerrville and Engeling Wildlife Management Areas near Kerrville and Palestine. Mrs. Kittie Morgan returns from a five week trip visiting Otis Griffith in Hobbs New Mexico and touring Carlsbad Caverns. Sara Ann Sorelle arrived in a Waco hospital Thursday September 15. She weighed 7 pounds 14 ounces. Her parents are Mr and Mrs Jack Sorelle. Her paternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs Don Sorelle of De Leon.
De Leon is honored as De Leon Day at the Heart O Texas Fair in Waco October 1 to 7 with a special rodeo program. Miss Helen E Harmon, daughter of Mr and Mrs Frederick G Harmon, will be the Cowgirl Sweetheart riding Maud the buckskin in a 100 year old saddle. A De Leon horsemen group will perform in the evening rodeo and local riders may join by contacting club officials. Reserved De Leon Day seats cost 2.50, including grounds admission.
Mrs. C. B. Garner of the Roch Community brought a sweet potato weighing 10 pounds to the Free Press office. The hill where it was dug was examined and found to yield nine more nice potatoes.
Friends of Mrs. Floyd Sorley rejoice as she leaves Dublin hospital and returns home after a serious illness. she is reported to be getting along nicely.

A public singing event is announced for Rock Bluff this Sunday starting at 2 o clock in the afternoon. The event invites community members to attend.
Mrs Pearl Snead spends the week in Greggton visiting her sister Mrs Nell Hall. Another sister Mrs Maggie Williams of Abilene accompanies Mrs Snead to Greggton for the stay.
