Reta Richmon to Represent Texas in State 4-H Dress Revue

Miss Reta Richmon of De Leon will compete in the state finals of the 4-H Dress Revue at the 1955 State Fair of Texas. More than 170 counties held preliminaries with about 74 girls participating. Judges will assess grooming poise costume accuracy and overall 4-H achievement. The top winner earns an expense paid trip to Chicago for the National 4-H Club Congress.

Hiway Contract Awarded to Vernon Firm for Highway 67 Plan

A Vernon firm won the low bid of $556 065.19 for a U S Highway 67 377 project in Comanche County. The work covers grading structures base and surfacing to the Erath County line and should take 280 working days under district engineer Robert J Milligan in Brownwood. Contract awaits Bureau of Public Roads concurrence with P R Huntington the resident engineer overseeing construction.

De Leon Day Highlighted at Heart O Texas Fair

De Leon is honored as De Leon Day at the Heart O Texas Fair in Waco October 1 to 7 with a special rodeo program. Miss Helen E Harmon, daughter of Mr and Mrs Frederick G Harmon, will be the Cowgirl Sweetheart riding Maud the buckskin in a 100 year old saddle. A De Leon horsemen group will perform in the evening rodeo and local riders may join by contacting club officials. Reserved De Leon Day seats cost 2.50, including grounds admission.
