De Leon Loses Season Opener to Gorman Panthers

Gorman Panthers defeated De Leon 29 to 8 on Friday night. Burgess rushed for 129 yards and Maxfield scored for Gorman, while Huddleston and Hallmark starred for De Leon on returns and punting. The Bearcats kick off at 8:00 p.m. in Comanche next.

Upshaw Begins Harvest Season As First Seller In De Leon

Sam Upshaw, a De Leon peanut farmer since 1972, sold the first 1976 crop peanuts last Friday. His Spanish peanuts were planted May 15 and yield about 70 bushels per acre. He farmed 350 irrigated acres, with 100 acres Florunner, and applied all chemicals via irrigation. He saved about 2500 dollars this year and expects a strong crop outlook, possibly his best ever.

County steer feeding program underway in Comanche County

Comanche County's 1977 Commercial Steer Feeding Program has 71 official entries from FFA Chapters and 4-H Clubs across Comanche, De Leon, Gustine, Hasse, Newburg, and Sidney. Steers were weighed and started on feed August 28, with the event leading to the 42nd Annual Comanche County Junior Livestock Show January 20 and 21, 1977.
