De Leon hosts Dublin Lions in the 1955 season opener with Coaches Langford and Little guiding the Bearcats. Band uniforms debut, crowd urged to cheer as Quarterback Club members welcome players before kickoff. Also notes Peanut Festival activities and Band Director Repass’s resignation plans.
The Band Parents Club met in the high school auditorium on Friday night September 2 to elect officers. Elected were president Mrs. Lee Cook vice president Mrs. W C Holdidge secretary Mrs ee Hilchrest and treasurer Mrs Yoyle Huddleston.
A published list includes individuals whose last wills and assignments were prepared by Fred C aye and are available for pickup at Ye Rann Insurance Agency. Names shown include John N. Newman Lela Newton Josie L. Johnson A. Appleby Mrs Verda Caddell Curren Paul Davenport Retta Son Molly E. Barnes Charles Jones Nash Cirey L. Fly Jr and William C. Boone.
Mr and Mrs Scotty Campbell plan a two week vacation in Colorado visiting Mr and Mrs Joe Parker and family and Mr and Mrs Leonard Seales and family. They will also spend time with Mr and Mrs C W Norton and Mrs Chandois of Weatherford and her mother Mrs Josie Rob on and other relatives.
De Leon and Dublin clash at Bearcat Stadium for the season opener. Coach Al Langford reports most players fit with Lamb and Kimmell limited. Miles Davis to carry much of the load at halfback as Dublin's Jerry Daniels Bu ford Shafer and Derwood Strube key Bearcat threats.
Miss Joy Nowlin daughter of Mr and Mrs W B Nowlin of 303 Moseley De Leon will attend Barnard College the women’s undergraduate college of Columbia University She graduated fourth in her De Leon High School class and was Christmas Queen in 1952 a tennis and photography club member She leaves Saturday September 24 to begin college
A revival begins Monday September 12 and runs through Thursday September 22 at the Dublin Congregational Methodist Church. Services are held twice daily at 10 a.m. and 7 30 p.m. Dr W A Godsey will preach, described as a spirit filled minister and Bible teacher strong on Hebrew and Greek scholarship. Everyone is welcome to attend these services.
A thorough canvass among business men yields agreement on six principal holidays Christmas Fourth of July Labor Day Armistice Day Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day. The plan aims to give customers and workers predictable rest and allow stores to post schedules in advance for smooth operation.
The De Leon P T A met in the High School Auditorium with many parents and teachers. Superintendent Rowland spoke on Crisis in Our Schools noting lack of respect for teachers and low salaries as causes of Texas teacher shortages. He cited 7000 teachers retired and 4000 new certificates issued.
The St Joe H D Club will hold a 42 party at the St Joe Community House on Thursday night September 15 starting at 7 30. The charge is 25 cents per person with free ice cream. Everyone is invited to attend.
Farmers and ranchers are urged to attend a brush and tree control demonstration at the George Willis farm about three miles northwest of Comanche on Highway 36. The event begins at 9 a.m. Tuesday September 13 and will show different chemical application methods using 245-T Amate and CMA Chemicals, presented by G O Hoffman Extension Service Range Specialist.
Mr and Mrs C J Aishman who had lived in Wink return to De Leon to build a new home on Sipe Springs road near Mr and Mrs Chester Pell The community welcomes them back home and wishes happiness.
The Texas Senior Citizens Convention met September 15 at the Stephenville Recreation Hall from 10 am to 4 pm. Mayor Henry Clark gave the welcoming address and Judge Dale Harbing delivered the response, with speakers including Judge H. Moore and Senator Doyle Willis.
Mrs Virginia Moseley lies critically ill at her daughter Mrs J N Joiner's home. Mr and Mrs Tom Hill of Turkey arrived Wednesday evening to be at her bedside.
J Dardner and son James report irrigation pays off when done right and water is available. They cultivate 320 acres in the Nould Grove Community as a father son team. The Gardners live on the old Uncle Dora Patterson place and are active socially. the elder Gardner often sings duets at gatherings.
