141 Members Of 65 Club Attend Casa Manana

Sue Wilson reports 141 members of the F and M 65 Club visited Fort Worth on Saturday August 27. They lunched at Luby’s Cafeteria at Hulen Mall then toured the two level shopping center before attending Casa Manana to see Ken Berry in Promises Promises. The show, written by Neil Simon with music by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, ran on Broadway for 1281 performances. Hostesses included Lena Taylor Karen Gardner Tola Wilson Susie Ravenshine Jeannette Belyeu and Sue Wilson.

Public Hearing Set For 1977 78 School Budget

Kimmell Named Area Chairman For Crippled Children Benefit

Ardean Kimmell of De Leon is named area chairman of the 18th annual Cattlemen's Round-Up for Crippled Children aiding the West Texas Rehabilitation Center. C. A. Morris reports 132 donors from 79 Texas towns. Proceeds support WTRC facilities in Abilene, San Angelo, and Snyder. Events run September 26 cattle sale in Abilene, September 28 horse sale, and October 5 special sale in Coleman.

Free Press Football Contest Opens With Cash Prizes

City imposes pen requirement for dogs inside limits

City Council adopts dog pen rule requiring animals kept within city limits to be contained in a suitable pen kept free of debris and waste that could odor or disturb neighbors. Violations carry fines up to 100 dollars and may constitute a misdemeanor with similar penalties.

De Leon School Enrollment Totals 741

De Leon schools opened the 1977 78 year with 741 students under Superintendent James Perkins. High school enrollment rose to 210 from 199 last year while Junior High reached 131 up from 130. Elementary total is 400 down from 420 with kindergart 52 first grade 79 second 60 third 62 fourth 43 fifth 52 and sixth 56.

County Steer Feeding Program Underway in Comanche County

Comanche County launches the 1978 Commercial Steer Feeding Program with entries from FFA and 4-H clubs across Comanche De Leon Gustine Hasse Newburg and Sidney. Steers weighed and started on feed August 27. The event closes at the 43rd Annual Comanche County Junior Livestock Show January 19 and 20 with 0 official entries listed so far.

Bearcat football eyes three teams for 1977 season

De Leon prepares for 1977 with 121 participants across Bearcat and Cubcat programs. Bearcat varsity has 24 players, junior varsity 20, ninth graders 20, with junior high adding 29 eighth graders and 28 seventh graders. Coach Jack Waggoner leads the varsity with Grady West. Ronnie Clifton guides ninth grade and seventh graders. Thirteen lettermen return from a state finalist team, led by seniors Sig Wolfe and Jeff Rogers on the first team.

220th District Judge Campbell Issues Report
