Shakespeare Club Library Improvement Project on parade

An entry in the Peach and Watermelon Festival Parade featured the Shakespeare Club Library Improvement Project with Librarian Mrs. J. H. Grizzelle at a desk issuing books to children. The Pickup was a light green GMC loaned by Terrill Pontiac Company, decorated with pink ribbons to mirror the club colors.

Miss Reta Richman Wins Second Place In District Dress Revue

Miss Reta Richman tied for second score at the District 8 4-H Dress Revue held at John Tarleton State College Stephenville. Dorothy Hlavaty led with the high score. Richman represented Comanche County with a brown tailored suit alongside Brown County’s Baby Jean Beakley in best dress.

Lions Club Ice Cream Supper Kickoff for Welfare Fund

The Lions Club sponsors a freezers ice cream supper at the Little League Baseball Field on Tuesday September 6 at 6 30 p m. Cakes and cookies will be sold for a small price with proceeds supporting audiometer tests hearing aids eye exams glasses and other local school children needs. Wayne Chambers president states each member brings a gallon of freezer made ice cream and a home made cake.

The Community Club recommends declaring Labor Day a town holiday with business houses and schools closed next Monday September 5. A formal canvass has not yet reached full support, but the town is expected to observe the day as a holiday.

City Library to Open Again on Wednesday

The Shakespeare Club Library resumes Wednesday afternoon hours for withdrawal and checking in books. After moving books to new cases there was some confusion, and the library was used for a Chest X-ray last week. The library is now in new book cases and invites the public to read good books at no cost.

Traffic Death Toll To Reach 419 Over Weekend

New York reports the Association of Casualty and Surety Companies estimates 410 traffic fatalities for the Labor Day weekend of 78 hours. Causes include 135 excessive speed and 65 driving on the wrong side, plus 39 from failure to yield and 29 from drowsy driving. Over 22 000 drivers and passengers and 3 200 pedestrians may be injured.
