De Leon Brick Works, Inc. now owned by Larry Ricker and Harry Reger, operates a 9000-per-hour brick line and aims for 1,000,000 to 1,100,000 bricks this month. They implement ground brick additive, grooves for better firing, and explore sawdust as an energizing, weight-reducing additive. The plant near De Leon employs about thirty, ships across Texas, and reserves excess brick for local customers.
De Leon students will have a holiday next Monday October 30 as teachers will be attending a TSTS meeting that day.

Powell twice more found pay dirt and De Leon finished with 154 rushing and 233 passing yards while limiting Cross Plains to 92 total yards. Powell had 73 rushing yards and Sanders extended an unbroken extra point streak to 20.
Norma Locke notes the Comanche County Museum will host an open house Sunday October 29 at 2 00 p m. Visitors can view antiques and learn what can be loaned or donated. De Leon chief Rodney Jeanus warns motorists to observe 20 mph limits in school zones when lights flash and to stop for students in crosswalks at three crossings near the elementary school Methodist Church Dairy Queen and football field. Police will patrol these sites and radar will be added next week to aid enforcement. Vandalism during Halloween carries fines up to just over 200 dollars and drivers are urged to watch for pedestrians after dark.
Absentee voting for the November 7 general election started on October 18 and runs through November 3. In person voting is at the County Clerk's office in the courthouse. mail ballots available by contacting the clerk. The 1978 Halloween Carnival is hosted by seniors on Saturday October 28 at the De Leon Peach and Melon Festival Grounds from 5 30 to 8 30 p.m. The event aims to engage community members with festive activities and local participation.
