Millard Richmon and his wife donated money to buy building materials for a duplex at the Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch near Amarillo. The Board of Education in De Leon held a public budget hearing for 1976-77, adopting a $771,870 operating budget with allocations for salaries, supplies, debt service, maintenance, and transportation.
De Leon Bearcats visit Goldthwaite Friday for their third district game as De Leon sits 4-2 overall and 2-0 in district while Goldthwaite fields nine returning players from 1-8-1 last season led by Eddie Martinez and Jeff Johnson with 3-4 0-3 records this year. Early and Ranger eye 3-0 district marks as Cross Plains faces Dublin.
Comanche County reports forty three absentee ballots as of Tuesday afternoon for the November 2 general election. Mail in ballots counted. deadline at the County Clerk office is October 29 the last Friday before the election.
Sam Weaver won last week's Football Contest with a tie-breaker score closest to the De Leon-Cross Plains total of twenty one. H. G. Sharp finished second and Ricky Snider third while four entries missed one game Mason over Wall. Many others missed two games.
The De Leon Peach and Melon Festival float took first place in the float division at the Peanut Bowl Parade in Eastland on Saturday October 16. Riders included Peach and Melon Festival Queen Jodean Miller and Miss De Leon Kim Miears. The bicentennial float had previously earned trophies in Dublin Comanche and Lampasas. Little Miss De Leon Dovie Hardin also rode the float in some out of town parades.
Deral Brown secretary of the De Leon Volunteer Fire Department is this week’s Fireman of the Week. A 1965 De Leon High School graduate, he joined in 1968 and holds multiple certifications. Brown earned a BS in General Business from Tarleton State University in 1970 and serves as Vice President at Farmers & Merchants Bank. He has led community efforts including the Peach and Melon Festival and Muscular Dystrophy campaigns. He and wife Nancy have a daughter Samantha. Brown’s parents are Dub and Mary Brown.
Cal Farley s Boys Ranch near Amarillo, Texas, through gifts from L Millard Richman and family funds a two family 3500 square foot duplex on the ranch. Dedication was Sept 6 1976 with Richman relatives in attendance. The ranch operates 17 homes hosts 16 vocations and supports a large dairy beef and produce operation for the boys.
