De Leon Float Wins at Eastland Peach and Melon Festival
The De Leon Peach and Melon Festival float took first place in the float division at the Peanut Bowl Parade in Eastland on Saturday October 16. Riders included Peach and Melon Festival Queen Jodean Miller and Miss De Leon Kim Miears. The bicentennial float had previously earned trophies in Dublin Comanche and Lampasas. Little Miss De Leon Dovie Hardin also rode the float in some out of town parades.

Deral Brown secretary of the De Leon Volunteer Fire Department is this week’s Fireman of the Week. A 1965 De Leon High School graduate, he joined in 1968 and holds multiple certifications. Brown earned a BS in General Business from Tarleton State University in 1970 and serves as Vice President at Farmers & Merchants Bank. He has led community efforts including the Peach and Melon Festival and Muscular Dystrophy campaigns. He and wife Nancy have a daughter Samantha. Brown’s parents are Dub and Mary Brown.
