Homecoming Week Festivities Announced with Pep Rallies

Gayle Wilkerson outlines the town homecoming schedule with a Wednesday 9 p.m. pep rally at the festival grounds and a Friday 2:45 p.m. rally at the football field. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. with queens and sweethearts at halftime. Hospital Auxiliary asks for old magazines to aid patients, drop-offs at the hospital lobby.

Two pep rallies are scheduled for De Leon Millsap homecoming week. The first occurs Wednesday at 9:00 p.m. at the festival grounds slab, followed by a second rally Friday at 2:45 p.m. at the football stadium.

Taxing Entities Set Meetings To Announce Rates

Taxing entities plan hearings to set rates. De Leon City Hall hosts a special meeting Monday October 24 at 5 p.m. The De Leon School Board meets October 24 at 7 p.m. at the school tax office to set the 1963 84 school year rate.

Bearcats tipped to win by 39 over Millsap

The Harris Rating System lists De Leon as a 39 point favorite over Millsap for Friday. Hamilton is favored by 28 over Hico and Dublin by 22 over Ranger. Groveton tops Class AA with District 12 AA standings: Dublin 139, De Leon 129, Hamilton 117, Ranger 111, Hico 102, Millsap 95.

De Leon High names homecoming queen and queens and sweethearts

Four De Leon High School seniors vie for homecoming queen at Friday's De Leon Millsap football game with the winner announced at halftime. Nominees are Terrill Sides Vickie Higginbottom Angela Carr and Holly Burlison. Sweetheart honors go to Dana Leal Donna Maltby Mike Gonzales and an unidentified Football Sweetheart. Alene Otwell won the Homecoming Queen title in a voting of ex students with 114 votes. Mrs Otwell is a 1936 graduate and longtime De Leon Bearcat football game attendee. Eldon Terrill will present the queen ceremony.

Bearcats Triumph 44-6 Over Hico in Friday Clash

De Leon Bearcats dominate at Hico 44 to 6 as Kenneth McKillip rushes for four touchdowns. Howard Preston and Trent Sharp spearhead Tiger turnovers, while Jason Moon connects to Chuck Baley for a touchdown before halftime.

Texas Watermelon Association Convention in Fort Worth

Booster Club Draws 500 Pound Calf at Friday Game

The De Leon Booster Club will hold a drawing for a 500 pound calf at halftime of Friday night’s De Leon versus Millsap football game. Tickets are available from any Booster Club member.

Halloween Queen Coronation Sponsored by Junior Class

The D H S Junior Class sponsors a Halloween Queen Coronation on Saturday October 29 at 9 p m. An event includes a jack o lantern contest with two divisions preschool and elementary and middle school students and an auction of five cakes.

Anterless Deer Permits Issued At Courthouse In Comanche

Texas Parks and Wildlife Dept will issue anterless deer permits for Comanche County on Monday and Tuesday October 24 and 25 from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and 1:00 to 5:00 pm in the county courthouse. A map of compartments and rates will appear in this week's paper. Landowners must own or control at least half the permit rate of their compartment. After opening, permits will be available to landowners or agents only on the scheduled dates.

County to Hold Public Hearing on Tax Increase

Comanche County Commissioners Court will hold a public hearing on a ten percent tax increase for the 1982 tax roll. The hearing is October 20 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the County Courtroom. The rise funds offset higher expenditures from new laws, jail standards, redistricting, and a Tax Appraisal District.

City Warns Halloween Pranksters After Early Spate of Vandalism

De Leon police warn Halloween pranksters after melons and pumpkins stolen or damaged last weekend and eggs hurled at the post office. Federal charges may apply for egg throwing, with city property damage leading to prosecutions regardless of age. Citizens reporting incidents will receive police assistance.

Homecoming Dance Planned At City Hall

Senior parents sponsor a homecoming dance at City Hall on October 21 after the game. The event will run until 1:00 a.m. Sandwiches and cakes will be sold, and donations for a game ball intended for halftime give away support the senior trip.

Bearcats Host Millsap Bulldogs In Homecoming Game

The Bearcats, 5-2 overall and 2-0 in district, welcome Millsap Bulldogs for Homecoming at Bearcat Field Friday at 7 30 p m. De Leon’s defense limited Ranger and Hico to 60 yards per game. Millsap sits at 0-2 in district with a 1 24 win over Scurry Rosser. Millsap returns 12 lettermen, has a new head coach Jack Meeker, and features QB Brad Campbell with running backs Shane Baker David Johns and Juan Valdez backed by center Brad Littlefield.

Melinda Johnson Attends State Fair Honor Dinner

Harvest Festival Aims To Support De Leon Church Outreach

Altha Wilkerson explains the Methodist Harvest Festival funds De Leon outreach including a Day Care Center, nursing home birthdays, and youth camping fees. Festival money never covers the church budget, and proceeds fund community activities with a Thanksgiving Christmas bake sale lunch auction and daylong event November 5.
