Donnie Skaggs and James Morgan Move Offices in De Leon

NTC Certified Public Accountant Donnie Skaggs and Attorney James Morgan relocate their offices to 107 North Tevac, moving from 603 North Fannin. Skaggs, De Leon High School 1969, Tarleton 1973, worked in Dallas before returning in 1975. Morgan, De Leon High School 1966, Tarleton 1970, TAMU 1973, UT 1976, has practiced law in De Leon since 1976 and taught business law at Tarleton 1976–78.

County Museum to Hold Open House October 29

Harris Picks De Leon Over Cross Plains

De Leon remains the top Class A team in the state this week and gaining strength per Harris. De Leon leads with 5-0 and 139.5, followed by Iraan 5-0 135.9 and Lexington 5-0 135.9, then Farmersville 6-0 134.9 and China Spring 4-1 134.9. Cross Plains ranked 167th in Class A. De Leon is favored 30 points over Cross Plains with Early by one over San Saba, Bangs 29 over Goldthwaite, and Dublin over Ranger by 45. Gorman is listed as the number five team in Class B.

Charlene Miller Chosen as Coming Home Queen 1978

Evelyn Moore reports Charlene Counts Miller was elected Coming Home Queen at the De Leon High School Homecoming game in Dublin Friday night. Miller, a 1943 graduate, teaches fifth grade at De Leon Elementary and is active in First Baptist Church, E.S.A. Sorority, and band parents.

Annual Harvest Festival Plans Underway at De Leon

The De Leon First United Methodist Church announces its annual Harvest Festival on Saturday November 4 at the De Leon Civic Center City Hall. Doors open 10:00 a.m. with Granny's Attic The Sandwich Shop Country Store Country Kitchen and the Children's Corner. Underwood Bar-B-Que runs 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. An auction of donated and homemade items will raise most proceeds for the Day Care Center serving the De Leon area. Volunteers are invited to donate toys baked goods or homemade items and contact Bodie Weaver Wilford Millsap or David Lindsey.

Bazaar at De Leon Assembly of God Church Saturday

The Women’s Ministries Department sponsors a bazaar on Saturday October 21 from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the church fellowship hall at 504 N Travis. Family color portraits on Deco Plaques, coupon sales in advance, and items like quilts, ceramics, pillows, aprons, toys, cakes and cookies will be offered. Proceeds fund hall improvements. Charles Stenholm campaigns for Congress's 17th District plan a bus and car caravan through De Leon on Wednesday October 25 from 2 30 to 2 45 p m local time. James Morgan organizes the De Leon stop with Stenholm and his wife Cindy joining supporters. Stenholm aims to meet many people as he seeks the Burleson seat. Burleson has endorsed him in the past and Stenholm won the runoff two to one.

Two De Leon Residents Named To Advisory Council

John Pickens and Mrs. Derwin Nabors of De Leon were named to the Region IV Child Welfare and Abuse Advisory Council. The panel partners with the Law Enforcement Agency to address county problems and promote child welfare through community involvement and collaboration with social worker Dianne Hunter of Brownwood.
