J C W s Ramblings notes 59 youngsters will receive library reading certificates this Saturday after completing 12 books this summer. Librarians Nancy Scott and Lucille Preston helped motivate reading while callers urge support for the Bearcats at Bear Cat Stadium Friday night.
Comanche County families show rising incomes outpacing inflation with about 5,290 dollars spent annually on basics per family. Of each hundred dollars, 23.10 goes to food 24.00 to housing 10.90 to clothing while taxes 16.30 transport 8.80 health care 5.60 and other 11.30. Discretionary spending totals roughly 3,830 dollars per family boosting car purchases home equipment vacations and savings.
The Proctor Reservoir Weather Station releases a daily forecast and climate readout covering temperatures and moisture for a 24 hour period from 8 a.m. to 8 a.m. The report provides observed conditions and likely trends based on current data.

The realigned district 10-A begins its schedule this Friday with Goldthwaite and Dublin dropped and Bangs and Santa Anna added. Bangs, idle as a preseason bottom pick, now looks like a favorite as the Dragons stand 4-1, followed by Cross Plains 3-2, Early 2-2-1, Santa Anna 2-3, and Ranger and De Leon at 0-5. This week Bangs vs Early, Ranger at Santa Anna, and Cross Plains versus De Leon.
The De Leon FFA hosts a fall barbecue Tuesday October 24 at 7 00 p m at the south end of the Ag Building. Parents of FFA members are invited along with young men interested in forming a De Leon Young Farmer Adult Farmer Chapter. Special guests are expected.

The De Leon Methodist Church marks its 10th Harvest Festival on November 4 with a slogan G L O and a focus on the Little Children’s Day Care Center. The drive invites involvement through work, time, and donations to support care for young children.
Ham Lockes Little D hosts a 1 00 p m Thursday Nov 9 session at the Holiday Inn Brownwood with Hiram Smith Jr Texas A M and Texas Tech professors. The full afternoon covers production financing and marketing for fruit and vegetable crops with tips on loans from the Chamber of Commerce and a note on local business openings including Craig Waller musical instruments.
Steve Hallmark, an eighth grader from De Leon, won this week’s Free Press football contest. Six entries competed. Hallmark missed only one game and was closest on the tie breaker, eight points off. Paul Roch and Bret Sharp tied for second, fourteen points off on the tie breaker.
