Lions Defeat Bearcats 23 0 in Dublin clash

De Leon's Bearcats were held scoreless as Dublin built a 7-0 lead in the first quarter and led 13-0 at halftime. A third quarter field goal and a fourth quarter TD sealed a 23 point Lions win. Key rusher Jimmy Lewis had 81 yards on 17 carries. Keith Smith and Andy Lopez had receptions. Injuries to Tim Hare and Jackie Golden. Leading tacklers were Roger Winkles John Ledbetter and Jerry Walker with double digits. Three sophomores joined the varsity: Edwin Hale Jeff Fields and John Dennington.

Milk truck collision kills two near Dublin

Two men died when a milk truck collided with a Santa Fe freight train three miles east of Dublin at 11:40 a.m. on Wednesday. John Paul Scott, 28, of Comanche and Joel Woods, 33, of Goldthwaite, were pronounced dead at the scene. The Gore, Inc. truck burned after impact. investigation cites a blind rise and 400 foot sightline to tracks.

County Teachers to Attend TSTA District XV Convention

Comanche County educators will attend the District XV fall convention of the Texas State Teachers Association in Brownwood on October 22 at the Brownwood Coliseum. Delegates from Comanche include M L Green Marguerite Ross Betty Fisher and Martha Harrington. The House of Delegates meets October 21 at Veda Hodge Hall Howard Payne College with James Perkins presiding. The opening session October 22 features speaker Mrs. Byrd from West Lake High School Austin discussing Does Miss Cherico Still Wear Red White and Blue on Friday. ATSTA will also speak at the general session.

Citizens Group Holds First Meeting On Community Needs

On October 4 at 7 00 p m a group of interested citizens met at the F and M Bank Community Room for the first of two public meetings to discuss community needs. They began preparing an application for a community block grant to continue city improvements. Areas discussed included revitalizing homes and enlarging the Senior Citizens club house.
