County To Hold Public Hearing On Tax Increase October 20
Comanche County Commissioners Court will hold a public hearing on a proposal to raise taxes by ten percent on the 1982 tax roll. The hearing runs October 20 from 9 00 a m to 12 00 noon at the County Courtroom. The increase funds offset higher expenditures from redistricting rules jail standards and the Tax Appraisal District creation. A $50 000 property would see taxes rise to about $14.00.

Dr. Tony Russo has joined the De Leon Clinic staff and began practicing October 1 in De Leon. He moved here from Galveston with his wife Nancy and their 18 month old Francesca, living on Apache Drive. Russo studied at UT Austin and UTMB in Galveston, where he also did his internship. Mrs. Russo, born in Houston, was an art teacher with HISD. The Russos have just returned from a trip to Europe.

Teachers To Hold In-Service Day On Monday

Local Couple Arrested For Marijuana In De Leon Area
Acting on a tip from Constable Jerry Rich De Leon Chief of Police Jeff Bowling and Constable Rich secured a search warrant on a De Leon couple outside the city limits. With help from Comanche County Sheriff Shilo Garman Deputy Dave Jones and DPS Trooper Roy Kubiak officers found eight large high grade marijuana plants and other paraphernalia. The man and woman were arrested and plants sent to the DPS lab in Abilene. This followed a prior two week period with another drug arrest inside the city.

Texas Family Land Heritage Program Honors One County Farm
Agriculture Commissioner Jim Hightower will honor one Comanche County farm for more than a century of continuous production. The 1983 ceremony at the State Capitol on November 10 will recognize W. J. Barnett Farm owned by Bobbye Barnett Allen and Paul J. Allen of Gustine, part of seven Comanche County honorees. The program founded in 1974 has registered 1,729 farms and ranches, with a short history and photos to be published in the 1983 Family Land Heritage Registry.
