F M 65 Club of De Leon Grows in Fourth Year

The F and M 65 Club, formed three years ago with 95 percent merchant backing, exceeds 700 members. It hosts varied events and trips to Lion Country Safari, Ice Capades, Six Flags, and Fort Worth venues to honor senior citizens and thank participating merchants. The next outing on November 5 goes to the Shrine Circus at Will Rogers Coliseum in Fort Worth.

De Leon Teacher Injured In Car Accident

De Leon Home Economics teacher Brenda Jarrell was seriously injured in a one car crash Sunday near Abilene. Her car struck a concrete bridge railing on FM 604 at about 6 PM, destroying the vehicle. She underwent surgery for multiple injuries and will be in traction for ninety days at Hendricks Hospital in Abilene, room 611.

County Commission Rejects Ambulance Funding Plan

Comanche County Commissioners Court declines ambulance funding citing lack of funds and local sentiment that hospital districts should finance services. De Leon Hospital District board unanimously approves buying Nowlin Funeral Home ambulance for 15 600 dollars with 50 percent district share. The district plans a donor drive and coordination with De Leon City Council while staffing and operation plans are developed. Emergency call rates within the district will be uniform, with outside calls priced per mile.

The Ex-Students Association will present the annual Coming Home Queen at the De Leon Homecoming Game against the Goldthwaite Eagles on Friday October 21. The Queen must be a De Leon High School graduate and will be chosen by public vote via a mailed entry form in this edition.

Salvation Army Drive Kicks Off in De Leon 1977

The Salvation Army campaign opens with a LaDon's breakfast for the 1977 drive in De Leon. Campaign chairman Wes Harper leads captains Larry Simpson Donnie Nowlin Eula Weaver Charles McClure and Norma Locke. The goal is 850 dollars with one third kept locally for groceries clothing and aid and two thirds sent to the Dallas state chapter. A state project supports a Waxahachie boys camp serving about 900 boys each month. Workers will seek local donations and those not contacted may call Wes Harper.

Weaver wins ten year old punt pass and kick title

Brian Noel Weaver II of De Leon won the ten year old division with 202 percent points in a windy local PP and K meet. Comanche contestants dominated the top placings in multiple age groups and the 18 local winners will travel to San Angelo for zone competition next Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Trophies will be awarded during the Comanche Clyde game at Indian Stadium Friday night.
