Comanche County's petroleum sector supported the local economy with direct input of 137,242 dollars last year. In 1970 the county produced 6,231 barrels of crude oil valued at 20,562 dollars and 799,181 thousand cubic feet of natural gas valued at 116,680 dollars, plus 17,155 dollars in royalty payments. The county ranked 185th in value of petroleum produced, and Texas Mid-Continent notes 187 counties exceed 125,000 dollars in value. Drilling cost totaled 43,923 dollars with three dry holes, two wildcats. The county also hosts a natural gas processing plant with 5 million cubic feet per day capacity.

Two De Leon women proved experts this week in the Free press Football Contest. Mrs Elmer Joiner of De Leon won first place by missing two games and near tied on the tie breaker. Mrs George Mason took second, missing two games and the tie breaker by 14 points. Several others also missed few games while many entries faltered on key matchups. First prize nets $5.00. second prize is a one year Free press subscription.

Fort Worth Man Charged in Lake Banes Shooting Death
Fort Worth man A J Borque is charged with murder with malice after a knifing and shooting on the shores of Lake Banes near Comanche. A 15 year old juvenile is being held on possible murder charges. Borque remains jailed with a $5 000 bond after treatment for a leg wound. The incident followed an altercation during a fishing contest that drew 2 500 fishermen to the 100 acre lake. J D Hallman died at Comanche Hospital after the attack.
