Retirement creates artful lures by Rusty and Beth Davis

Joe C. Rusty Davis retired in 1969 from the Post Office in Lubbock after thirty one years at the General Delivery window. He and his wife Beth, with Beth’s sister Alma Roby, moved to De Leon for a calmer life at 504 East Reynosa. The couple, longtime anglers, run a two person lure making operation using dyed buck tails, chamois cloth, lead, and plastic to craft many styles. They describe a nine step process and note lures can attract large bass and crappie, with a rodeo plug being Rusty’s favorite.

1977 Comanche County figures released for crops and livestock receipts

Comanche County farmers and ranchers reported 1977 marketings and government payments totaling 42.196 million dollars. Crop receipts were 13.563 million while livestock receipts reached 28.321 million. Government payments stood at 312 thousand, with Texas statewide data showing cattle, cotton, and other commodities leading in national rankings.

James Morgan to Join Stenholm Staff in Washington

Congressman-elect Charles Stenholm of Stamford announces staff picks for Washington D.C. office. James Morgan a 30 year old De Leon attorney and farmer will serve along with two West Texans and several Washingtonians with Texas ties in the capital posting.

Stenholm Names Aide Team For 17th District Office

Stenholm announced a new staff for the 17th District with Robert Dyer and Judith Curtis in Washington roles, Sonny Lee as a part time aide, Ken Walter as legislative assistant, Bill Longley as district office manager in Stamford, Dale King as district representative, B P Cain III as field rep, and Elaine Talley leading the Abilene branch. He said the staff will keep the district connected to residents and emphasize listening to constituents.

Kimmells Return From Tour To Orient And South Pacific

A 42 member National Water Well Association delegation led by Mr and Mrs Ardean Kimmell of De Leon completed a three week tour of Hawaii Singapore Indonesia Australia and New Zealand. They met with Australia National Water Well Association attended Singapore conference and Perth meeting with counterpart visits in Adelaide Melbourne Mt Cook and Rotorua. The trip promoted friendship and exchange of water well methods with People to People International backing. Highlights included Bali study tour irrigation site in Adelaide area and a Sydney Harbour luncheon cruise. Ardean Kimmell head of Crown Pump Corp and Kimmell Irrigation Supply and innovator of a five inch submersible pump and chemical applicator. Earlene Kimmell supervised bookkeeping and inventory control for Kimmell Irrigation Supply.

Fund Established At Bank For Mike James In De Leon

A fund is opened at Farmers and Merchants Bank in De Leon for Mike James age 34 to buy a lift. He has been an invalid all his life and his mother, now ill, cannot lift him. They have lived on West Seguin in De Leon the last six years, formerly from Fort Worth. Mrs James, formerly Hattie Bell Myers, was raised in De Leon.

Next week features 8th grade boys and girls games at De Leon starting 4:00 p.m. from December 4 to 7. On December 5, junior varsity and varsity girls and boys clash at Gorman at 4:30 p.m.

H G Jug Sharp Wins 100.00 Final Football Contest

H G Sharp wins the $100 final football contest with an entry near the tie-breaker total after missing three games. Ruby Park and Danny Hardin also missed three games but were farther on the tie-breaker. Others missing four games include James Morgan Steve Murphy Margie Davis Joanne Hardin Chan Priest and Melissa Murphy amid college upset and Minnesota Green Bay tie.
