Thanksgiving service brings community together

Shoppers' Night Opens as Santa Plans De Leon Arrival

Santa and Mrs. Claus visit De Leon as the Chamber hosts the first Shoppers' Night of the season. Mayor Campbell lights the Christmas display at 6 p.m. with Santa arriving then. A downtown outdoor tree will be installed and donations for lights are invited. A second Shoppers' Night is set for December 9 with $75, $50, and $25 gift certificates awarded.

Student Hit By Auto Narrowly Misses Injury on Street

A 12 year old pupil from a local school was struck by a vehicle at 3 40 p m on Texas Street in front of the First United Methodist Church while crossing from Frank's Appliance toward the church The driver Steven Forrest kept to a slow speed in the school zone and the boy did not use the crosswalk Police chief Jerry Register said the injury was not serious and the student was taken to a local hospital for treatment

Jack Heath retires as De Leon Hospital administrator after 11 years of service. He previously served 20 years in the Army Medical Service Corps, retiring as Lieutenant Colonel in 1972. The hospital completes its transition to new ownership by the hospital district.

Vandal Strikes De Leon School and Home

A 15-year-old juvenile was arrested after vandalism at De Leon Elementary School and T. C. Burlison residence on Tuesday night November 19. Damages totaled about 2500 at the school and 1500 at the home. a walkie talkie was stolen. Suspect charged with two counts of burglary in juvenile court.
