Dr. Eddie Moore of De Leon has fulfilled continuing education requirements to maintain active membership in the American Academy of Family Physicians, the national body for family doctors. The academy was formerly known as the American Academy of General Physicians.

New Appraisal Board Members Named for 1984 Term

Last Tuesday the Comanche County Clerk Betty Conway tallied votes from various taxing entities for the county appraisal board. Elected to take office January 1 1984 are Doris Joiner and Juanita Gray of De Leon Whit Jarratt and Steve Carroll of Comanche and Don R Moore of Gustine.

James R Bruton was promoted to Executive Vice President of the Farmers and Merchants Bank in De Leon. He began banking in 1974, rose to Vice President by 1980, and is active in local groups including the De Leon Chamber of Commerce and Booster Club with two children, Shannon and Brian.

De Loyn Singleton Wins $100 Football Contest

De Loyn Singleton, Higginbotham's manager in De Leon, won the $100 prize for near perfect tie-breaker points in the Brownwood Vernon football game. Bearcat coach Buddy Sharp also submitted a perfect entry. Several others missed one or two games.

De Leon Campaign Raises 745.88 for Cystic Fibrosis

Mrs. Bill Wood chairs the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation drive in De Leon, reporting 745.88 raised for research, education, and patient care. The note explains CF as the leading genetic killer of children and young adults, describes its effects on lungs and digestion, and mentions ongoing support for carrier testing and research.

Turkeywalk Raises 2800 For American Heart Association

On November 12 twenty three participants ranging from elementary school age to seniors walked a five mile course in De Leon for the Turkeywalk. The event raised a grand total of 2800 dollars for the American Heart Association with prizes awarded to top fundraisers.

12-AA All District Teams Released Highlights Bearcats

The District 12-AA All District Football Teams were released, with Bearcats earning multiple spots. Shane Bunting and Bryan Andress were unanimous selections on offense and defense, plus Bearcats comprising first and second teams across offense and defense including Howard Preston Mike Sones Kenneth McKillip and others with several honorable mentions.

The evening runs from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. featuring live music, with Mayor Doyle Smith turning on the lights at 6:00 and Santa visiting. DWI Charge Filed After Accident In Comanche County

Bryant White of Stephenville pleaded guilty in 220th District Court to driving while intoxicated after a Monday night collision on FM 496 that damaged the Comanche County Telephone Company line. A passenger, Twanna Howard Williams, was hospitalized. two other passengers faced public intoxication charges with fines.

Four Prisoners Transferred To Huntsville

Four inmates were moved from Comanche County Jail to the Texas Department of Corrections in Huntsville after being convicted in 220th District Court. All were on parole but three parole revocation motions were denied. Transferees include Albert Allen Davis for forgery, Ager Wayne Bonham for burglary, Mike Cagle with a $2,000 fine, and Frank Almaguer Jr. Prizes awarded to top finishers were a 20 inch color TV for first, a $50 savings account for second, and a third place winner Judy.
