Early Longhorns defeat Bearcats in final 1979 game

The Early Longhorns battered De Leon 42-6 to close the 1979 season as De Leon ends 3-6-1 overall and 2-4-1 in district play. Bearcats RBs Ledbetter and Lewis logged yardage while Early forced three De Leon fumbles and three interceptions by Dennington and Ledbetter.

De Leon Police Department October Activity Report

The De Leon Police Department answered 235 calls in October, investigated six accidents, provided three funeral escorts, four vehicle inspections, four emergency messages, issued 47 traffic warnings and 25 traffic citations, and made six arrests. Patrol units logged 5,466 miles during the month.

Mrs Whitehead Claims Final Football Contest Win

Traveling photographer retraces late 1800s in a Pennsylvania wagon

John Coffer travels from Lancaster County 4000 miles by horse drawn wagon camera in the late 1800s style. He visits ranches and museums while living as a 19th century photographer. He processes inside his wagon and keeps a diary and journals. He was once hit by a car in St Louis and continues south toward Uvalde and the Rio Grande before heading west.

First Christian Church To Feature Guest Speakers

On November 25 the First Christian Church will host guest speaker Russ Watts at the morning service. An evening program at 5 o clock will feature Brother James Upshaw in song and a Crawford family program of religious songs from Ranger. On November 28 missionary Ron Augsburger will speak. he works with pioneer Bible translators in New Guinea. Everyone is welcome.

November Texas sales tax rebates rise 11 percent

State Comptroller Bullock reports city sales tax rebates through November 1979 total $390.4 million, 11 percent higher than 1978. Ninety three Texas cities share $25.8 million for November, with De Leon at $2,072.47 and other towns listed including Ballinger, Breckenridge, Cisco, Granbury, and San Saba among many.
