Town Talk Notes On FFA Fundraiser And Local Events

Friday marks the last day to order fruit from FFA members who are also selling frozen sausage patties. Bearcats season ends after a hard De Leon game, observed in Granbury where teams arrived in varied attire. The Women’s Division Chamber arts and crafts fair returns at City Hall on Saturday with Christmas shopping in mind and shoppers’ night planned for De Leon on December 5. Deer and turkey pictures will be published in the Free Press as space allows.

Community Thanksgiving Service Planned For Sunday

The annual Community Thanksgiving Service happens this Sunday at 7 00 p m in First Baptist Church to thank God for blessings. A De Leon Christian Welfare Fund offering supports needy families. treasurer De Leon Singleton administers it. The sermon is by Robert Hall of United Pentecostal Church with a community choir led by Mrs Dottie Hare and hymn singing by Tim Skaggs. Choir rehearsal at 6 30 p m. organist Martha Bunting, Sue Wilson piano. Ministers from several churches participate including Charles McAfee Cecil Harper Mike Patterson Jerry Womble Jim Fitzhugh Marvin Andrews and Melvin Fields. Everyone is invited to attend.

Voters Approve State Amendments In Texas Election

Texas voters approved ten of eleven constitutional amendments in last Tuesday’s statewide election. Amendment eight failed with about 53 percent against. Amendment ten, about private-property sewer line costs, passed with roughly 52 percent in favor. Voter turnout statewide was low and Comanche County showed mixed results across amendments.

De Leon schools set aside November 24 and 25 for Thanksgiving holidays. Students will be dismissed early November 23 at 2 p.m. to begin the break.

The 1983 84 basketball season begins Tuesday November 22 with boys and girls varsity and junior varsity teams hosting Gorman at the De Leon gym. Four games start at 4 00 p m. The De Leon girls rename from Kittens to Lady Bearcats this season.

Arts and Crafts Show Set For November 19 At De Leon Hall

The De Leon City Hall hosts its annual Arts and Crafts Show on Saturday November 19 with doors opening at 8 am. The American Legion Auxiliary runs a food concession and admission is free. Space remains for displayers. contact Mrs. Jim Koonce to rent a selling space.
