Bearcats Aim to Close Season Against Bangs Dragons

De Leon Bearcats host Bangs Dragons in a Friday game to finish 2023 season strong. Bangs stands 5-4 overall, 1-3 in District 10A led by Jack Fisher and Brent Newton. De Leon moved up four players from the B team for the finale and seniors Gilder Park Adams play final time. A 7:30 kickoff follows a 6:30 pep rally and bonfire at Bearcat Field.

Charles Morgan Wins Free Press Football Contest

Charles T. Morgan tops this week’s Free Press Football Contest after correctly guessing all games and missing the tie breaker by one point. Six contestants tied for the lead by missing only two games with C M Caraway I and Donnie Melton taking other top spots. several others missed three games.

Chamber of Commerce Raises 413 for Christmas Fund

As of Tuesday morning 413.00 had been contributed to the De Leon Christmas Fund. The bicycle is on display at the Chamber of Commerce Office and merchants are supplying goods. Tickets for prizes are available at the Chamber office and donations continue to pour in as committees seek support for De Leon’s Christmas effort.

Thanksgiving Service To Be Held Tuesday In De Leon

The annual Community Thanksgiving Service will be at the Assembly of God Church on Tuesday November 21 at 7 00 p m Rev Billy Spencer of the First Baptist Church will deliver the message Interdenominational pastors and laymen join in the service with special music by the Assembly of God Church choir An offering will be collected for the De Leon Welfare Fund Community members are invited to attend acknowledging blessings from the harvest and God s goodness

Nixon Sweeps Comanche County in election night

President Richard Nixon won all 18 county boxes in Comanche County with 2608 votes to 1176 for McGovern. Local races saw Tower edging Sanders 1946 to 1833 and Brisco beating Grover 2416 to 1833, with De Leon results 566 to 311 for Nixon and Sanders 445 to 431 over Tower. Amendments 2,3,5,6,7,13 and 14 passed. Voter turnout was about 3,800, below the Democratic Primary's 4,200.

Early Edges Bearcats 28-20 in Friday night thriller

The Longhorns defeated the Bearcats 28-20 marking Early’s first-ever win over De Leon. Craig Smith and James Hodges starred for De Leon with 140 passing yards and 150 rushing yards respectively as the teams traded scores through three quarters.
