Opening day deer season yields young hunter’s 10 point catch

Gayle Wilkerson reports the Free Press town talk highlights a successful opening day of deer season with 10 year old David Farley from New Caney near Houston scoring a 10 point 15 5 8 inch spread. Pictures in the deer and turkey contests will run as space permits and Cindy will contact readers about office supplies and commercial printing assignments. The section also congratulates area football teams on their seasons and notes junior high grades’ strong records.

Mr Box Wins Football Contest Again With Perfect Entry

Two contestants tied for first in last week’s Football Contest with perfect entries. N L Box, who won two weeks earlier, takes first on the tie-breaker from the De Leon Glen Rose game, while Alma Ruth Hancock earns second. two other entries are noted but details end.

Texas voters approve all 14 constitutional amendments statewide

In Texas, voters backed all 14 proposed amendments last Tuesday. Comanche County favored six, including bonds for reservoirs and flood control, water line projects, land purchases, hospital service requirements, inmate transfers, veterans housing funds, and legislative spending approvals, with regional adjustments and eliminations in several counties.

Glen Rose dominates Bearcats 40-0 to reach playoffs

Glen Rose Tigers clinched a playoff berth by routing De Leon 40-0 after turning Bearcat mistakes into scoring opportunities. Brocking three Bearcat fumbles and five interceptions, Glen Rose posted 14 points in the second, 6 in the third and 6 in the fourth, with Estrada and Saldivar leading ground and air efforts.

De Leon Schools Schedule Early Dismissal for In Service

Teachers in De Leon Schools will attend an in service program on Thursday causing early dismissal. The elementary school will end at 1 35 p.m and the high school at 1 50 p.m.

Sesquicentennial Program Planned in Comanche County

On Thursday night November 21 at 7 p.m. in the Comanche district courtroom two Texas communities in Comanche County will be honored. Jeanine Hicks of the Texas Sesquicentennial office will present to each community along with other gifts such as coloring books for Comanche, De Leon, Gustine and Sidney schools. A pair of spurs will be given to the Comanche County Museum and the public is urged to attend.

The De Leon Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture announces a Christmas Home Decorating Contest with categories for Most Beautiful Most Original and Most Religious each awarding $50 prizes. A Business Decorating Contest offers first second and third place plaques. Entry deadline is December 17.

Evangelist H J Lackey to Lead De Leon Revival

Evangelist and Mrs H J Lackey will preach at Assembly of God Church De Leon from Sunday November 17 to Friday November 22. Dinner follows Sunday's morning service. De Leon Chamber Plans Two Shoppers Nights With Santa

De Leon Chamber of Commerce will host two Shoppers Nights during December. Santa arrives December 2 at 6 pm with gift certificates of 75, 50, and 25 dollars to spend at local merchants. Registration begins on main street. drawings at 8 pm with proceeds benefiting local groups. The Mighty Maroon Band welcomes Santa. chili and bake sales will support clubs and sororities. A second Shop­pers Night is set for December 9 with further $75, $50, and $25 certificates and similar registration and drawing.
