Hunting Season Opens Saturday Across Texas

Hunting seasons begin Saturday November 12 and run through January 1 1984 for deer turkey and quail with limits of three deer two bucks two gobblers or bearded hens and antlerless deer by permit in Comanche County. Deer and turkey must be tagged immediately and kept on carcasses for processing. Legal shooting hours from half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset. Ten safety rules cover handling guns, muzzle direction, target verification, and storage.

Veterans Day Ceremony Planned at Van Dyke DAV Chapter

Veterans of all wars will be honored on Friday November 11 with an 11 a.m. flag raising at the Disabled American Veterans Chapter Home in Van Dyke. The day includes games such as dominoes and horseshoes followed by a 4 p.m. barbecue dinner with no charge but open to donations to cover expenses.

The Comanche County American Heart Association sponsors a five mile Turkey Walk this Saturday November 12 at 9:00 a.m. in the west lot of the First Baptist Church De Leon. The De Leon Chamber of Commerce and Women's Division sponsor Shoppers' Night and a Christmas Home Decorating Contest on Monday December 5. Stores stay open to 8 pm and Main Street blocks 6 to 7 pm for carols as Mayor Doyle Smith lights the trees with Santa visiting youngsters. American Legion Auxiliary Poppy Day Reminds Service Honor

On November 11 the Auxiliary will offer the red crepe poppy to the public in De Leon by Unit 471. Volunteers will participate in the nationwide Poppy Day program to honor citizen soldiers who died in four wars. Funds aid needy veterans and their families through handmade poppies crafted by disabled and hospitalized veterans in Poppy Shops. Poppies are offered for a contribution, not a set price.
