Heavy weekend rainfall across De Leon and nearby regions brought 1.5 to 2 inches, easing long drought. Harvest paused due to wet fields. some peanuts remain unharvested awaiting moisture to loosen hard soil. Farmers hope to finish harvest soon with minimal run-off and plants cover crops on cleared land.

De Leon Principal Al Strasner advised that all seats at the San Saba stadium are reserved for this Friday night's game. The price of the tickets remain the same, but for assurance of a good seat, see Mr. Strasner for your ticket and reserved seat at the game.
First Baptist Church in De Leon announces revival services from Sunday to Wednesday November 12 to 15. Evening services start at 7 00 pm and noon luncheons run 11 30 to 12 30 daily. Evangelist Rev Dan Connally and music director Pat Webb lead the event. Billy Spencer serves as pastor.
Harris picks De Leon by 31 over San Saba as De Leon leads Class A with an 8-0 record and 141.9 rating. Franklin, Haskell, China Spring, Sunray, Lexington, Iraan also feature in the top tier while other 10-A teams include Dublin, Early, San Saba, Bangs, Cross Plains, Ranger, and Goldthwaite. Gorman sits as Class B favorite over Blanket in Friday night action.
De Leon Bearcats built a 38 point halftime lead, then cruised to a 59 3 victory over Goldthwaite. Key performers included Clynt Taylor with 126 rushing yards, David Walker 16 tackles and 324 rushing yards as a team. Joey Wilcoxson left with a sprained knee but Powell is expected back.
De Leon Bearcats travel to San Saba for a crucial 10-A game after improving to 8-0 and 5-0 in district. San Saba, newly in 10-A, features standout Moses Cisneroz and a tough Armadillos defense led by QB Roland Gonzlaes. Kickoff 7:30 p.m. in San Saba.
By Sue Wilson Dallas Cowboys lost to Minnesota on October 26 in a crowd of over 62,000 at Texas Stadium. Two busloads of 65 Club members attended with guests, enjoying pre game activities, cheerleaders and band performances alongside guest bands, halft ime drill teams and flags. Hosts were Doyle Taylor Lena Taylor Wayland Hodges Mary Beth Hodges and Sue Wilson.
Congressman Omar Burleson announced a $153,000 loan from the Farmers Home Administration to the Upper Leon River Municipal Water District to cover construction cost overruns. The funds will expand distribution lines and improve the water treatment plant in Hamilton, benefiting about 6,289 rural residential users, following earlier 1977 funding of $541,000 loan and $514,000 grant.
The Texas State Teachers Association urges the public to join teachers and schools in American Education Week, November 12 through 18. Since 1921 the observance promotes citizen support and student education awareness through joint efforts of teachers, students, and parents with sponsors including NEA and local associations.
This week’s football contest produced numerous upsets with only six entries missing three games. Deral Brown nailed 62 points in the De Leon Goldthwaite tie-breaker to win first prize of 5.00 dollars, while Wonzille McGill and N. L. Box earned second and third place for being close to the tie-breaker.
