Red Cross Drive Opens This Week in De Leon
The De Leon area Red Cross drives open this week under area chairman. Local chapter reports 64 people helped for military personnel, 75 taught Standard First Aid, and 40 received Advanced First Aid. Summer swimming and lifesaving classes were offered at the De Leon pool. Training is free except for books. home service for military families remains free.

Bearcats Take District Lead With Victory Over Dublin
De Leon Bearcats moved top of the district with a 25-15 win over Dublin as Dublin and Goldthwaite tied. Kimmell rushed 124 yards, Aguero 115, Aguero and Almaguer scored and Almaguer added two extra points. Dublin coach Tolliver praised the effort despite the loss.

The 1971 78 Junior Class sponsored the Halloween Coronation with Meridith Smith named queen. Myron Adams MC and Ronnie Fritz presented roses. Meridith's court includes students from grades 1 through senior class. The event featured Gary Vaughn and Sherry Nowlin, a poetry reading, and a spook contest won by DeeDee Nowlin Jill Miller and Ben Carruth.

De Leon Halloween Carnival Raises Funds for Library
The Friends of the Library Club hosted a Halloween Carnival at the festival shed with decorated booths by grade levels. Prizes went to the eighth grade spook house, first, second, and third booths, and proceeds near 425 dollars will fund new library books for public and school libraries.

B-Team Clinches District Title In Win Over Ranger B-Squad
The De Leon Bearcat B Team claimed the district title with a 12-7 victory over Ranger B-squad on Thursday. Ricky Morgan set up the first score with a 55 yard run, Jimmy Cawood scored from the one, and a 35 yard pass from Scott Weaver to Morgan made it 12-0 at halftime. Ranger finally scored in the second half. Bearcat defense was led by Glen Boyd, Terry Ferguson, John Swint and Randy Bibby. The B Team stands 4-2 on the year and faces Gorman Thursday, with a November 11 finale versus Goldthwaite.
