De Leon Community Weekend Events Highlight Fall Activities

Friday features J C W Ramblings and a Homecoming game with a 6 40 p m Twirlers performance and a high school pep rally at 2 45 p m. Saturday hosts Harvest Festival with gifts decorations baked goods and a barbecue auction at First United Methodist Church. Proceeds from the Halloween Carnival benefit De Leon Public Library with a full Carnival recap planned next week. Downtown parade to vote scheduled for Monday afternoon.

Pecan Show Set For December 2

The Twelfth Annual Comanche County Pecan Show is set for Saturday December 2 1972 in the TP and L Room Comanche Texas. Rules require that entries come from Texas growers grown in 1972 by the exhibitor with one entry per improved or papershell variety and unlimited seedling or native entries. entry deadline is noon Friday December 1 1972.

Comanche County Voters Prepare for General Election

Comanche County residents will vote next Tuesday for president and vice president along with regional and county offices. The ballot also includes 12 constitutional amendments and a single county race between Herbert Lockwood and Claud Jones. Polls open 8 AM to 7 PM with an expected turnout around 50 percent.

Methodist Harvest Festival Set For This Saturday

Altha Wilkeren invites De Leon United Methodist parishioners to a harvest festival on Saturday November 4 with a 9:00 a.m. volunteer arrival and 10:00 a.m. open to the public. Activities include a country fair atmosphere, a sandwich parlor meal, Underwood's barbecue from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. for 2.00 adults 1.00 children, and an auction at 7:00 p.m. Auctioneer Anthony Brinson keeps it lively as the parish promotes Go Love Others God’s Little Ones.

Rex Brown Tops Vote Poster Contest Winners

A community poster contest on November 7 highlighted Rex Brown as first place with Jackson Boen and David Stokes following. Runner ups included Jim Wilson and others. multiple Cubs displayed posters around town with several residents recognized for judging the entries. A sidewalk parade is planned Monday after school.

Terry Park Wins Free Press Football Contest

Terry Park narrowly won the Free Press Football Contest tying on the tie breaker score. Park was two points off the tie breaker. Four entries tied for second, five points off. Several participants missed multiple games. Park receives five dollars for first, and the four second-place entrants earn six month subscriptions.

The Ranger Bulldogs defeated the De Leon Bearcats 25-0 on Friday night. James Battle returned the opening kickoff 75 yards for a TD and Dale Christian added a quarterback sneak for another score. Ranger led 18-0 at halftime and San Sneed extended the lead with 11 yards in the third quarter.

Dystrophy Campaign Opens Monday in De Leon

The Muscular Dystrophy Association of America announces its annual house-to-house fund drive in De Leon starting Monday November 6. Volunteers will march door to door to raise money for vital research and patient services amid a deadly disease that largely affects children.
