Fifty Seniors Graduate In De Leon High Commencement
Fifty De Leon High School seniors received diplomas Friday night at First Baptist Church. Memorial Day Observance Honors Vietnam Veterans in Comanche
On the courthouse lawn in Comanche Monday morning Memorial Day ceremonies honored five Vietnam Veterans Week recipients. De Leon residents Johnny Tucker and John Mack Weaver joined Robert D. Merworth Mrs. Stewart and David L. Robinson in receiving awards presented by Judge Johnny Livingston. Mayor Bill Clemons recalled Civil War origins of Memorial Day and noted deaths in major wars while Henry Tabb read the poem Lest We Forget about workers who are not dead but away.

School Bond Proposals Fail To Pass In Local Election
Saturday's bond election failed with 1 042 votes cast. Proposition 1 drew 896 against and 139 for while Proposition 2 tallied 882 against and 134 for. The propositions sought a 2 000 000 Salvation Army Texas Division funded camp and a 250 000 gym addition. School officials said they will continue to provide education with available facilities as the board planned to canvass votes and discuss alternatives.
Texas Electric to Study Use of Solar Energy in West Texas
Texas Electric Service Company and Rockwell International filed a nine month feasibility proposal with the Department of Energy to evaluate converting a 115 megawatt gas fired unit at the Permian Basin plant near Monahans to solar power. The study would assess technical and economic issues for a field of heliostats over a half square mile, concentrating sunlight to heat a central tower to generate electricity without actual construction. DOE approvals anticipated by October 1, with results guiding further research and design.

Sheriff’s report of activities in Comanche County May items
On May 19 a 17 year old German man was arrested for possession of marijuana grown in a pasture northwest of De Leon. Charges filed in Justice of the Peace court. suspect free on bond. On May 17 a 17 year old white male from Stephen ville was arrested for attempting to elude a peace officer speeding and aggravated assault on a peace officer with a motor vehicle. A road block was set up about 4 miles south of Lowell Creek Park on FM 1467.
