All D H S Gilder Brooks Caught in Nabors Lake Owl Incident

Wright and Van Zandt bass fishing at Nabors Lake encountered a large barred owl that misread a topwater lure as prey. The bird swooped, talons hooked Van Zandt, and after a brief struggle the owl was subdued and released back at the lake. Wright notes this is the second owl he has caught there.

Howell Named Top Engineer in Oklahoma

William P. Howell of De Leon has been named Oklahoma Engineer of the Year by the Oklahoma Society of Professional Engineers. A petroleum engineer at the U S Bureau of Mines Energy Research Center in Bartlesville, he led research on chemical explosive fracturing to recover oil and gas from tight formations. His work, begun in 1963, yielded field tests with a 40 percent flow increase in one well and drew national industry attention. Howell joined the Bureau in 1958 after earning a Texas A M University BS in petroleum engineering and serving in the Army Ordnance Corps. He is married to Peggy Hodges and the couple and their three sons reside in Bartlesville.
