Blood Drive Boosts De Leon Hospital Effort
A May 12 blood drive at De Leon Hospital in the old lobby collected 48 pints. West Texas Blood Services staffed eight hours with three technicians. co sponsored by the hospital and its auxiliary. Co chairs were Kerry Irvine and Debra Stephens. past president Eula Weaver supported the effort. Hospital staff and auxiliary members, student nurses, and donors from Senior High and local personnel donated blood. Several donors were deferred. elementary students created posters for the campaign.

De Leon Bands Present Spring Concert Highlights
The De Leon high school auditorium hosted a large audience for the annual spring concert. The program opened with the Star Spangled Banner and featured the Sixth Grade Beginners Band, the Junior High Band, the 1977 78 Mighty Maroon Band for next year, and this year’s Mighty Maroon Band. Eight seniors earned four year band certificates: Janet Mathis, Bruce Hodges, Terri Van Zandt, Brent Bush, Dianne Anderson, Roy Powell, Byron Smith, and Bill Miller.

It Is Still Too Early To Spray For Pecan Pests

Bearcat and Kitten Athletes Honored at All Sports Banquet
De Leon Booster Club held the All Sports Banquet on May 14 at City Hall honoring DHS 1976-77 Bearcats and Kittens. Awards went to Toby Hare in track, Mark Davis in golf, Kelly Mitchell in girls basketball, Terri Van Zandt in girls track, and Steve Hallmark for basketball. Football medals were awarded to state finalist Bearcats with Toby Hare named Most Outstanding, Rocky Hardin Most Competitive, Andy Quinn Most Hustle, and Joe Bob Huddleston Sportsmanship. Bill Yung spoke at the event.
