Lena Taylor becomes first woman on the PAR Board as it expands from seven to eleven directors to serve local families. Bodie Weaver also joins, noted for their strong community contributions in DeLeon.
DHS honors 1975 76 athletes for state football and district championships in basketball track golf. Gene Hachevar of Oklahoma Sooners to speak with Rick Mason flying Hachevar and players. Bearcat coaching staff to present awards. tickets five dollars at Weaver Drug or Robert Hodges.
Kelly Vannatta placed seventh in the state typing contest in Austin for Class A schools. He won district and regional events to qualify and was coached by Mrs. Allene Box, son of Mr and Mrs Carl Vannatta.
Dr A M Reynolds ends a lengthy medical career spanning De Leon and beyond Grows from Baylor Medical School in 1936 to service in Alaska and Canada He ran a hospital clinic fed by a municipal hospital grant and a Gilmer-Aikens loan He and Mrs Reynolds raised three children and five grandchildren in Texas communities
Hiram Smith Jr of DeLeon accepted the Businessman contributing most to Region 5S conservation at Stephenville during the Texas Conservation Awards Banquet. W R Gibson won Outstanding Wildlife Conservationist. both are Comanche County representatives. The event was narrated by Rusty Carnes and presented by Ransom W Burke of the Fort Worth Chamber, covering 52 counties.
At a special Proctor Area Recreation Association meeting DeLeon residents Lena Taylor and Bodie Weaver won seats on the Board. The by laws were amended to add four members, bringing total to eleven with David Bell and M. G. Stephens also new directors. Taylor becomes the first woman on PAR’s Board and will serve a three year term to 1979. Weaver will serve a one year term to 1977.
Six members of the Bearcat track team travel to Austin for the State Meet. Tommy Cleere runs the 120 yard high hurdles and 330 yard intermediate hurdles and anchors the mile relay which won the regional. Mile relay teammates are Lester Walker Marty Shoemaker and Jeff Rogers with Ricky Snider as alternate. Toby Hare also competes in the discus.
The DeLeon Public School System outlines learning goals developed by a nineteen member committee of citizens teachers and high school students Two hundred fifty individuals will receive the goals and return surveys with comments The effort stresses the importance of what students learn for the future of the country and invites public engagement
