The Texas House approved the measure and the senate earlier, making Texas the 21st state to ratify a constitutional amendment granting 18 year olds the vote in state and local elections. Seventeen more states must ratify for it to take effect. if not by the November 1972 election, Texas will vote on the amendment.

Students work at least fifteen hours weekly in city businesses while studying regular subjects and a related occupational education class. Burks Museum Opens Season With Historic Relics
Burks Museum opens its summer season on May 16 at 2 p m with a wood burning steam thrashers demonstration. De-Stratification Program Start Improves Local Water
The Upper Leon River Municipal Water District began air compressor operation at Proctor Dam on April 22 1971 to de stratify the lake and improve taste and odor. The 24 hour system will run for 30 days and then on a scheduled basis. State Health Department approved the plan and further improvements including chemical feeders are on order for higher lake level water.

Postmaster Reese Upshaw announced May 16 as the effective date for increases in most USPS rates under the postal Reorganization Act.
