Circus plans bloom for De Leon Cub Scouts in streets

De Leon Cub Scouts with about forty members prepare a neighborhood circus sponsored by the Methodist Men's Club. Bill Tate and Mary lead volunteers with five Den Mothers. the event promises curious exhibits and raises support for the program as dates are finalized.

Highway 16 completion celebration planned in Desdemona

Community committee from Strawn Desdemona and De Leon has organized a Tuesday event at the Desdemona tabernacle to mark Highway 16 from De Leon to Strawn. The program runs from about 4 to 8 pm with ribbon cutting, speeches by Highway Department officials, band performances, a barbecue dinner via tickets, and a post luncheon entertainment lineup.

County Girls Win Contests At Hamilton

The 4-H Club District Eliminations were held May 7 at Hamilton. Awards announced for Dairy Foods Team Demonstrations and Individual Demonstrations with winners from Comanche and Amity communities. Contestants will represent District 8 at the State Contests in College Station June 7-9.

Camp-O-Ral Set For Week End

Several hundred Boy Scouts Explorers and their leaders will pitch tents Friday for the Spring Camp-O-Ral at Lake Eanes south of Comanche. Field events Saturday include fire craft string burning pancake cooking tent pitching first aid drills pioneering and comedy. J C Golden of Stephenville chairs the East District Camping and Activities Committee and directs. Scoutmasters and advisors from Stephenville Dublin Gorman Desdemona and other towns will lead the two day event with Joe Tupin as local arrangements chairman. Court of Honor and Campfire Friday night and games Saturday invite the public and parents.

Drouth relief feed program extended into June

Ray Hastings notes the drouth relief feed program extends to June with signup through June 15 for a feed supply lasting to June 30. Peanut allotment acreage is raised by seven and one half percent. Grasshoppers are moving in parts of the county and should be controlled. the county agent offers insecticide recipes.

The Share-the-Fun Festival drew 75 4-H participants with Jerry and Susie Cook of Sidney 4-H Club chosen to represent Comanche County at the District Contest. Rural Neighborhoods judged district wide produced top three Soda Springs first Stag Creek second Amity third. Pasture program winners will be announced May 20 by Murray Cox with Amity contending for the Sweepstakes prize. judges included Murray Cox Ted Trew and Mae Bell Smith.

The Comanche County ASC Committee extends final dates for operators and owners to release 1955 peanut acreage allotments to May 19 1955. Producers must visit the ASC Office in Comanche and complete forms to release acreage or apply for adjustment by 5:00 P.M. on May 19.

Funeral Services Held For Willis F Thiebaud 79

Willis Franklin Thiebaud of Route 3 Dublin died May 2 in Dublin hospital from a cerebral hemorrhage. Funeral services were held May 3 at Round Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Warren McAlister and Rev. LeRoy Woolsey officiating. Interment followed at Bethal Cemetery with Masonic rites by Thompson Kemp and Casey Walling. He was a longtime deacon, farmer, rancher and active Odd Fellows and Masonic member. Survivors include three daughters, five sons, a sister and three brothers, along with 25 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.

Farrow Still In Critical Condition

Mrs. C. M. Farrow called her daughter Mrs. K. W. Reynolds in Tokyo by transcontinental phone Wednesday night about Dale Farrow’s critical illness in a Tokyo hospital due to a ruptured blood vessel in the brain. Also on the line were Douglas, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Farrow and daughter Sharon, and Mrs. K. L. Kendrick of Pasadena. Dale Farrow’s wife and two sons are with him. At last report his condition remained critical and no change was expected for about three weeks.

Former De Leonians Visit Old Home Town

Mrs. Louise Lester Kitchens and daughter Linda and Mrs. Lester Williams of Fort Worth visited De Leon on Sunday. They had not been back since 1931 when their mother Lettie Lester died, and they noted De Leon had changed a lot over 24 years.

Navy to Enlist Reservists in Equal Grades

Navy announces enlistment of reservists into equal pay grades in the Regular Navy. Men holding Corporal or Seaman ratings may transfer into the same grade. May enlistments offer Recruit Training at San Diego or Great Lakes with technical school options.
