DeLeon students shine at state meets and local events
DHS sends many students to Austin for state track and typing meets. Kelley Vannatta placed first in district and regional typing and will compete at state. The Kitten relay team placed second regionally and will run at state. Boys relay team members Jeff Rogers Marty Shoemaker Lester Walker and Tommy Cleere won regional first place. Cleere heads to state for the third year. Toby Hare placed second in discus. Local Little League plans a Saturday block sale at the red light to raise funds. Shilo Garman wins county sheriff race. In Saturday's Democratic primary Comanche County elected W. G. Shilo Garmon as sheriff over three rivals, with 2,032 votes to 817 for Bill Vineyard, 810 for Jerry Hassey, and 159 for John Finmore. Carter led in presidential delegates with 2,009. Bentsen won the Senate race with 2,091. O Rourke led railroad race. and Creighton tops in the 22nd District Senate tally.

Little League Blockade Set For Saturday
The Little League schedules its annual blockade under the red light for Saturday morning May 8 at 9 00. The fundraiser supports field improvements and expensive equipment including 10 dozen baseballs costing two to three hundred dollars. The Baseball Association invites the public to visit the park to watch the Little Guys play and reminds drivers to proceed carefully near the red light.

Mrs Allene Box longtime DeLeon High School business teacher plans retirement after coaching nearly 100 regional and state participants.
